120 Stockton (Macy’s)

San Francisco, CA

Silverado Contractor’s was contracted to complete the basement excavation scope in tandem with the demolition scope.  This bilateral approach generated many schedule and cost efficiencies for the project owner.  We developed our access and means/methods with the excavation scope as a focus.  A steel basement ramp was installed with a hinge that allowed the ramp to be raised and lowered to ensure operations and basement access exist without major disruption.  As the excavation progressed, numerous unforeseen concrete structures were encountered and removed seamlessly with our demolition equipment.  The excavation required an upfront dirt export operation, which resulted in a balanced backfill.  We designed and provided a shoring system to allow the construction of the new 120 Stockton building foundations and support the stored backfill material, which again accelerated the project schedule.  Once the building foundations were constructed, we completed the backfill and prepared the subgrade for water proofing and allowed the early start of basement build out.
